The President elect of the Council of Zongo Chiefs in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Musah Akambonga, who is also the community head of the Frafras, has called on all members of the council to forge towards unity with purpose and ensuring that they achieve their set objectives.
He described his victory as victory for all members and hoped that they will rally behind him, as they have done in his first term, for the welfare of the council and the chieftaincy institution in Kumasi as a whole.
Speaking to delegates after he was declared the victor of an election held to select the new Leadership of the council at the weekend, Naaba Akambonga observed that the election has been so successful and that is a clear indication of brotherliness.
He told members of the council to point out his mistakes anytime they find some in order to enable him make corrections for the betterment of the group.
Naaba Musah Akabonga, the incumbent has retained his position as the President of Council of Zongo Chiefs in the Ashanti Region.
Naaba Musah who is the chief of the Frafra Community in the Ashanti Region contested with the Chief of the Wangara Community, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim.
He won a landslide victory against his contender, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim, by polling twenty three votes as against eleven votes polled by his only contender in the race in what has been described as the most peaceful elections in the life of Council of Zongo Chiefs.
A total of 34 members of the Council were accredited to vote in the election that was conducted by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
Moreover, Alhaji Alhassan Abdul Wahab, the community Head of Yadigas and the deputy secretary and PRO of the council of the zongo chiefs stated that, there is no doubt they are all United after the process.
He again said with unity, they grow together and uses the opportunity to thank the electoral commission for conducting the election process successfully.
Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim, the former President of the council and the main contender for the presidency said, he was satisfied with the manner in which the election was held, adding that it was clear indication of bondage amongst them.
He noted that, they are all one people in a defined group and that they shouldn’t give room for any intruder who may tend to derail the efforts of unity that has ready been established.
Alhaji Ibrahim, congratulated the winner and wished him Allah’s guidance and wisdom for the next term as leader of the group. He noted that, he was ready to rally behind him to achieve the objectives of the council.
Sheikh Yusif Alhassan, who is a stakeholder and an Islamic cleric in the community has commended both candidates for showing maturity throughout the voting process.
He said, although the election has ended successfully, the question still remains on how they are going to bring changes in the face of those communities that they are serving.
Sheikh Yusufiyya, as he is affectionately called, has called for calm and unity among them in order to seek unity and development for the entirety of zongo community.
Madam Dina Asibey, the deputy Ashanti Regional commissioner of the electoral commission, uses the opportunity to thank all the candidates for cooperating with them to have a successful election.
In all, Four (4) positions were contested with 34 people expected to cast their votes. Thirty-Three (33) people voted with one (1) abstaining. There was no rejected ballot.
