Ayews in: Andre and Jordan have not quit Black Stars
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Spokesperson of the Ayew family, Fiifi Tackie has refuted media reports that Andre and Jordan have quit the Black Stars.

Mr Tackie in a Facebook post said the pair were still very committed to the Black Stars team as they have always been.

His comments come in the wake of media reports that the Ayews had decided to call time on their international careers after Ghana’s disastrous AFCON 2021 campaign in Cameroon.

He posted: “Andrè and Jordan Ayew are still very committed to the Black Stars team as they have always been. And they will continue to be. They will keep donning the Black Stars jersey to represent Ghana and give the team their very best on and off the pitch, as always. We just got off the phone. Please ignore the fabrications”.

Andre and Jordan have faced criticism from some sections of the local media over their performances in Cameroon.

It will be recalled that in February 2013, Andre and Jordan Ayew retired from international football after a dispute with the Ghana Football Association.

The sons of Ghana legend Abedi ‘Pele’ Ayew, wrote separate letters to the GFA to inform the GFA of their resignations.

“My decision to withdraw my services from the national team results from a number of issues or matters that have occurred quite recently, especially with regard to my relationship with the management team of the senior national team,” said Andre.

“These matters have so affected me emotionally and psychologically that I am unable presently to offer the best of my services to my dear nation.”

Meanwhile, Jordan said he was quitting so that he could play well at club level and “obtain the quality, experience and stature necessary for a call-up to play in the national team”.

However, they returned to the team for a World Cup qualifier against Zambia on 6 September 2013.
