Some section of the Zango Muslims are aggrieved over government’s decision to pay the 1st and 2nd ladies who are presidential spouses salaries.

The decision by the government to pay salaries of presidential spouses has been met with stiff opposition from various angles such as civil society organisations, party supporters, media men , individual groups and opposition leaders/parties.

Speaking to haske News, some section of the youth whom were driven from both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) expressed their concerns and disgust over the decision to pay salaries to presidential spouses.

The Muslim communities are begging the First and Second ladies to reject the monthly presidential spouses.

However, the decision to pay salaries to the first and second ladies, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo and Mrs. Samira Bawumia, respectively, has sparked some level of controversy among the citizenry who think the measures are unnecessary. They believe the first and second ladies have not been employed by Ghanaians to perform any function that warrants payments of salaries.

When approved , they are to be paid over GH30,000 monthly which takes retrospective effect from 2017.

Some have bemoaned such a step adding that there are more things to be done in the country than the payment of salaries to spouses of the presidents.

They have also asked for the monies to be channelled into creation of jobs and infrastructure.

The citizens have also asked the state to reconsider their actions and have kicked against the payment of salary to Rebecca and Samira Bawumia

Furthermore , they want Samira Bawumia and Vice president as a matter of urgency to turn down the offer of the presidential spouses allowances.

Also , The seventh Parliament has approved the recommendations of the emoluments committee constituted by president Akufo-Addo to pay presidential spouses agreed salaries dating back to 2017 when the current government took office.
