Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said he is still championing the economic development contrary to criticisms that has abandoned economics for digitalisation.
Bawumia has come under strong criticisms for failing to manage the country’s economy particularly the free-fall of the local currency and has now run to digitalisation, a sector already being led by Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
Delivering a public lecture on digital economy on the evening of Tuesday November 2, 2021, at the Ashesi University, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said his critics fails to appreciate the link between economy and digitisation.
“Unfortunately, many people still do not appreciate the link between digitalisation and economic development. I have head some people even ask why have I abandoned economics for digitalisation [laughs]. Far from abandoning economics, the reality is that in this era of the fourth industrial revolution, if you don’t digitalise your economy, you will not have much of an economy left, period,” the Vice President said at the programme.
According to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, all the energy focused on the digitisation agenda of the government is geared towards achieving the goal of the government to transform the country’s economy.
“The goal upon assumption of office was to quickly transform our economy by leveraging on the technological innovations as a means to leapfrog the development process, overcome the legacy problems, and improve both economic and public sector governance.
“This is why digitalisation has been a major focus of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government,” Dr. Bawumia added.
