The Western Regional Police Command has started interrogating some nine suspected armed robbers who were arrested over the weekend.

According to the police, the process is meant to gather more information to enable the prosecution of the suspects.

The combined efforts of the police and some members of the Wassa Appiahkrom and Ayiem communities led to the arrest of suspects in two robbery attacks on January 7 and 8, 2022, at Wassa Akropong and Mpohor in the Western Region.

The suspects attacked their victims with locally manufactured pistols, cutlasses, and a dagger, and made away with a motorbike, mobile phones, and a cash amount of GHS 2,700.

A police statement indicated that suspects Godwin Boah, Philemon Essien, Emmanuel Yaley, Mohammed Sumaila, Evans Amarh, Patrick Aboah, Augustine Nana Abaka, Kwabena Acquah, and Godfred Akwah are currently in police custody.

Suspect Philemon Essien, who sustained a gunshot wound on his hand, and suspect Emmanuel Yaley, who sustained non-gun-shot related injuries during the arrest, were sent to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital where they were admitted for treatment, and are under police guard.

Items retrieved from the suspects include a cash amount of GHS 2,200 a motorbike, and an Opel taxi.

The police are on the lookout for two of the suspects who managed to escape.
